Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt will be crowned queen tonight at Arlington High School’s “Stockholders’ Ball” at the school. In addition, Mrs. Roosevelt will speak in support of the American Field Student exchange service.
Ten foreign students will visit tonight’s function. Besides being guests at the ball, there is a big weekend planned for them. They are spending today at Arlington High School and had dinner at Vassar College before their presence at tonight's ball that will begin at 8 o’clock.
Tomorrow they will visit historic sites around Dutchess County. Although some of them will leave tomorrow night, others will remain until Sunday afternoon in order to attend Sunday morning church services with their American host families.
The various Arlington High School committees have completed last minute touches for tonight’s ball, according to Don Marchese, General Organization chairman for the stockholders’ drive and GO president. Assisting officer is Morty Laffin, treasurer.
“We earned over $1,500 from the sale of stocks and this money will be used to bring a student from a European county to Arlington next year and for an Arlington student to be sent overseas next summer,” said Don. Co-chairmen for tonight’s event are Dorothy Vrooman and Karen Duffy. |
