GERALD ROTH
James Collins Gerald W. Roth, 86, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Hospital. He was born in Poughkeepsie on May 18, 1939, to the late William and Rita (Horton) Roth.

A proud graduate of Arlington High School’s Class of 1957, Gerald went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959, and then in the Army Reserves until 1963. On January 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Sandra Volnick. Their marriage of nearly 65 years was a testament to enduring love and devotion.

Gerald lived his life with a big heart and unwavering faith. On March 26, 2016, he converted to Catholicism at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley, ensuring that he and Sandra would forever be united.

He worked as a Project Manager for IBM in East Fishkill for more than 30 years before retiring in 1993. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time working alongside his son Darrin at Roth Woodworking, a true reflection of his dedication to family and craftsmanship.

Gerald loved life’s simple joys — a strong cup of black coffee, the morning news, and old TV shows in his recliner. He was a proud American who flew both his American and Army flags with pride, and he rarely missed a Yankees or Giants game or a chance to enjoy wings during the Super Bowl.

Above all, Gerald loved his family fiercely. He never missed a birthday, celebration, or milestone — always showing up with a smile and genuine support. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. His greatest joy was time with his family, and his love for them, especially for Sandra, was unwavering. Gerald will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a kind, dependable man who always put his loved ones first.

Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his daughters Kelly Chermak and Shannon & Michael Linnane, his son Darrin Roth, his grandchildren Amber & Kayleigh Chermak, Austin & Kaelin Roth, Sierra Roth and her fiancé, Filip Cacinovic, Sydney Roth and her fiancé, Thomas Cornell, Katie Linnane, Nikolas & Haleigh Linnane, and Garrett & Hannah Linnane; and his cherished great-grandchildren Dean, Quinn, Cameron, Zachary, and Landon. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Roger, daughter-in-law Suzanne Roth, and mother-in-law Ellen Volnick.
